Funding and Partnerships
Funding
The Centre actively seeks funding for all of our research projects. Projects are funded through direct and collaborative written proposals to a variety of sources, including foundations and government programs, such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). In its pursuit of interdisciplinary collaborative research, the Centre also secures financial and in-kind contributions from its membership, industry and community agencies.
The Centre is a registered not-for-profit charitable organization and its operational expenses are kept to a minimum. Its administrative activities are funded through membership dues, donations, management of research projects and extension events.
Partnerships
The Centre pursues and maintains a range of partnerships that include Universities (such as UNBC and UBC), the industrial community (such as the Morice-Lakes Innovative Forest Practices Agreement - a conglomerate of north western British Columbia forest companies), and First Nations (such as the Office of the Wet’suwet’en). Through these partnerships the Centre is able to bridge the academic and applied realms of natural and cultural resource management.
Moreover, the Centre has formal partnerships with education and extension institutions. It partners with FORREX (Forest Research Extension Partnership) to deliver research results to a provincial, national and international audience. The Centre is also partnered with Northwest Community College – House of Learning and Applied Research, which allows us to directly apply our research results in field schools and professional development programs.
